We offer the option to choose from a single-channel LED technology, which operates on 1 channel this channel utilizes a mixed color spectrum controlled by a combination of red, blue and horti white. The major technological advantage of Stogger Turf Care is that we also have the ability to offer our lighting setups with a Dynamic Light Spectrum (DLS). This is a 3-channel light control system that allows us to control three different light spectra. With this, we can create customized light recipes.
Normally, we use these 3 light spectra as follows: We often start with the Far Red spectrum, which peak lies around 720 nanometers. This Far Red light provides a natural simulation of sunrise and sunset. This allows the plant to wake up naturally and also fall asleep in a natural way, gradually transferring the sugars made during the day in the leaves to the roots and stimulating growth in the most natural way possible. The next channel switches to the "Horti White" which actually simulates the natural occurrence of sunlight in colder months with shorter days, promoting extra growth in the upper regions of the plant. This is a spectrum combination of white and green light, giving a yellow appearance (similar to the HPS SON-T spectrum). The third channel we use is the red with blue mixed spectrum, which promotes good vegetative growth both in height and width of the plant as well as stimulates rooting.
With this Dynamic Light Spectrum, we create as healthy grass as possible. This also directly targets prevention of grass diseases through this technology.
Advanced Thermal Management
There are two crucial factors that influence the lifespan of LEDs: water/moisture and heat. If LEDs are not properly cooled, they can heat up to 200 °C. These high temperatures are negatively impacting the lifespan and efficiency of a LED.
Our competing parties in the market, typically use traditional cooling methods for the LED engines such as cooling fans. This works well to some extent. External influences can cause these fans to become clogged with dirt, potentially leading to electrical shorts. If such a fan fails, the LEDs will overheat, this has negative consequences for the output and efficiency of an LED, which may not be immediately perceptible to the naked eye but can be measured. This can result in poorer growth performance in the grass areas under those fixtures.
In our LED fixtures, we have opted for a different approach: a Passive Heat Pipe cooling system. This system ensures that when the LED engines and LEDs heat up, a liquid flows through the pipes between the cooling fins. This liquid flows due to the temperature difference between just below the LED engine and the temperature at the top of the heat sink. This system, which does not consume any electricity (passive), maintains an operational maximum temperature rise of 45 °C above ambient. Our LED temperature is 25°C to 35°C lower than classic cooled grow lights with the same power. Our passive heat pipe system does have an extra weight to it, this ensures maximum cooling capacity. Even after 75,000 hours of operation, our fixtures still have an output of 90% compared to new.
Construction
In addition to performance in terms of efficiency and hardware quality, we at Stogger® Turf Care find it crucial that end users can easily handle our equipment. Our engineering department ensures the slimmest possible models with the longest possible lifespan. Through smart material choices, we proudly offer the lightest grow light setups on the market. Both our smallest unit, the Booster 60 (m2), and our largest Booster 460 (m2) are the lightest grow light setups on the market. They are approximately 15% lighter than all competing parties.
Upgradable LED Engines
One of our unique advantages is that our LED fixtures are built for the future and for future technological developments. If MechaTronix develops a LED engine with LEDs of a higher efficiency, it's possible to simply remove the LED engine from the fixture and replace it with a new, more efficient LED engine in the existing fixture. This results in less waste, increased efficiency of the lamps, and minimal additional investment in an older installation. Therefore investing in a Stogger® Turf Care grow light rig is a future proof investment
Lens Technology
Another essential difference in the construction of our LED fixtures lies in the lens design. Our competitors, use a plastic molded lens. The disadvantage of a plastic lens is that there is an efficiency loss of light consumed by the material of the lens itself.
The lenses we use at Stogger® Turf Care are made of glass with an anti-reflective coating that ensures maximum spread of outgoing light. This also ensures maximum transmission of light output from the LED engine.
We'll stick with the topic of LED technology for a moment, why? Because all components in this fixture collectively contribute to maximum efficiency and lifespan.
LED efficiency binning
There is a significant difference in the quality of LEDs used, which is determined by the following:
The current production methods for producing LEDs result in differences in quality outcomes. It may happen that out of a batch of 100,000 LEDs, only 10,000 LEDs have the highest output and thus achieve higher quality. These LEDs are called super binning LEDs, which have highest quality in terms of light output and efficiency. Each batch is then categorized into quality designations, let's say from quality A to quality E. Ideally, every producer that needs to purchase LEDs would use this A quality, but of course, market dynamics are a bit different.
Stogger® Turf Care uses super binning LEDs in the grow light fixtures.
How do we acquire these super binning LEDs? Our partner in supplying our LED fixtures is MechaTronix, a company that ranks in the top 3 of the largest purchasers of LEDs from Osram (the world's largest LED producer).
As a result, MechaTronix is one of the few that has the ability to purchase these super binning LEDs for their LED fixtures. Stogger® Turf Care benefits from this because our partnership with MechaTronix ensures that we use a fixture with the highest LED efficiency and longest LED lifespan on the market.
Stogger® Eco-Logic
Technologically, we aim to be at the forefront, continuously innovating to ease the burden on end users and make them smarter in field management.
Many clubs talk about sustainability and responsible business practices, we want to capitalize on this by offering significant energy savings. We achieve this by installing the Stogger® EcoLogic on our Booster grow light systems (optional feature). If our systems are on the pitch and there is sufficient natural light for natural growth, our systems will dim or turn off and turn back on when natural light needs to be supplemented based on a set light level.
This allows us to eliminate unnecessary energy consumption. It's a useful tool for field managers to show their superiors the energy saved during certain periods while maintaining the same growth results as before. This technology makes it possible for field managers to start earlier in summer with lighting their pitch without wasting any energy. This light is only provided when the natural sunlight intensity is too low.
